“I’m stoked to go and watch a Marvel film of Spider-Man”
Former Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield revealed some plot details from the cancelled third film as well as his effort to bring Sony’s Spider-Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe during an interview with Uproxx.
“I’ve been petitioning to hook up with Marvel since the beginning, so I’m really glad they’re finally doing it,” Garfield shared, and added that he was never in talks to reprise the role once Sony struck their deal with Marvel Studios. “All the ins and outs of what happened is a more tender conversation that maybe I don’t want to talk about in public in a press situation. But all I can say is that I’m stoked to go and watch a Marvel film of Spider-Man.”
He also spoke a little about the plot of the third Amazing Spider-Man film, which was cancelled due to the new Sony-Marvel Studios deal, saying,
“We thought to kind of start from the base level, the foundational level of where have we left Peter and where do we want to see him go and what’s logical. And how do we build upon where we left off with this deep, desperate moment with Gwen?”
In Feburary, Sony and Marvel Studios struck a deal to share big-screen control of Spider-Man. The new Spider-Man will debut in Captain America: Civil War, with a co-produced Spider-Man solo film following on July 28, 2017. Sony will still finance, distribute and own the Spidey solo films, along with retaining final creative control. Tom Holland has since been cast in the role.
