Marvel and DC Dont’ Have a Corner on Great Comic Heroes

21_TheSpirit

When you think of comic books and superheroes, you generally think of Marvel and DC comics and heroes. Like Superman, Batman, Iron-Man, and Spider-Man.

A large part of that is the sheer popularity of these publishers, but also because of all the movies their superheroes have starred in.

These two companies dominate the comic book market, but did you know there are a lot of other publishing companies? They may not be as big as those two, but they have strong followings and relatable heroes.

You probably know who at least some of these heroes are, you just don’t realize they aren’t DC or Marvel.

Below is a list of the top 10 lesser-known heroes from comics that weren’t published by the big two. See how many you know.

Tank Girl

Tank Girl

Rebecca Buck isn’t really what you would call a hero. She has attempted to save the world on multiple occasions, but she normally gets side tracked with killing those responsible, and not helping those in need.

Pitt

Pitt

Pitt is very similar to the Hulk with his super-human strength and the fact that he doesn’t look very hero like. He is a human-alien hybrid that was created to destroy humanity, but ended up fighting for humans, not against them.

The Spirit

The Spirit

Although he has appeared in DC comics, he is not a DC character. You probably have heard of this guy because there was a movie made about him back in 2008. While the movie wasn’t very good, the comics are awesome.

Vampirella

Vampirella

As you can probably guess she is a vampire. But unlike other vampires she is a superhuman heroine, which makes her a very unique character.

The Mask

The Mask

He will forever be immortalized by Jim Carrey after this amazing performance in the 1994 film based on the character. While the movie played light and cheeky with the violence, the comic is filled with graphic violence.

Witchblade

Witchblade

Witchblade is relativity near to the comic book world, but that hasn’t stopped it from gaining a ton of fans. The Witchblade is actually a weapon that gives the person who wears it superhuman abilities. It also only bonds with a female host.

Newsarama

Invincible

Invincible

Invincible is another new comer to the game. His first appearance was in 2002. His story mirrors a lot with the story of Superman, but offers enough of a difference to be worth a read.

Hellboy

Hellboy

Probably the most popular hero that isn’t from the DC or Marvel Universe. He is a demon spawn that fights for humankind. You probably know him because of the two largely successful movies made about him back in 2004 and 2008.
