“Inside Source” Leaks Marvel’s ‘Dark’ Phase 2 Plans with Netflix

Marvel and Netflix partnership has been a success with critics and fans alike. With season 2 of Daredevil in the works and the recent announcement by Netflix of their commitment to new Marvel programming, the internet is abuzz with wishful thinking, crossed fingers and rumors.  The website PeeltheOrange.net made the latest announcement last night and, while still unsourced and unconfirmed, it’s pretty exciting stuff.

An unnamed source “close” to the situation has informed us that for Marvel’s next slate of Netflix shows, they’re going dark – very dark. The source says that in 2018/2019, you can expect the following shows for Netflix:

2018: Moon Knight with Bushman as the main villain

I’ve been a Moon Knight fan since the days of the Bill Sienkiewicz series back in the 1980s.  Marvel’s version of Batman, but more insane and dangerous, make this character an intriguing and fan-favorite choice.  Rumors about Moon Knight movies are almost as old as the internet, so I’m going to resist the fan-boy urge to jump up and down in utter joy until this one is officially announced.  In the meantime, I’ll continue to light a candle under my Khonshu shrine every night….

2018: The Punisher with JIGSAW as the main villain

This seems like a no-brainer.  We already know Punisher is joining Season 2 of Daredevil, and a spin-off series would seem to be in the bag as they say.  Still, we don’t have official confirmation from Marvel or Netflix and I wouldn’t expect that until well into the next season of Daredevil.

2019: Deathlok with Fixer as the main villain

Agents-of-SHIELD-S02E16-Deathlok-2

This one caused me to raise at least one eyebrow.  Deathlok is an established character on ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and we already know that a Mockingbird spinoff is in the works on the network.  While I wouldn’t be surprised to see a stand-alone Deathlok series, my money is that it would also be on ABC to capitalize on the existing network audience for S.H.I.E.L.D. That said, Deathlok is a pretty gritty character and they could go a lot darker on Netflix than Primetime on ABC.  We’ll see.

2019: Spider-Woman with Madame HYDRA as the main villain

Now THIS would be awesome! Jessica Drew is a long-time fan favorite and, since HYDRA is well established in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and as the main baddies on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Madam Hydra makes perfect sense as her nemesis.  Given the push for more female heroes, this one also makes sense as a follow-on to Jessica Jones and the addition of Elektra to the cast of Daredevil.

This could make sense for a number of reasons. Fans have been clamoring for a Moon Knight series for a while now and with Netflix established for Marvel’s darker properties, they could finally have a place for it. Frank Castle is appearing on Season 2 of Daredevil, so by 2018, he’ll already be established. Deathlok has already appeared on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Spider-Woman is fair game and by 2019, Spider-Man will have already been established in the MCU, which would be why I could see them wanting to capitalize on a similar character for the female audience.

I guess we’ll have wait and see what happens.  In the meantime, we’ll continue to share anything that appears to have credibility.  What do you think?  Rumors and speculation or an inside-look at what’s to come?
